The final game of the Estonia versus Great Britain series ended in a victory for Estonia in a hard fought game.
The teams played the game in the competitive and respectful spirit that has been the overriding theme for the 3 game series with both sets of players demonstrating national pride whilst taking full opportunity to experiment with tactics and player combinations in preparation for the upcoming world championships in Nagano, Japan in March.
Team Manager for GB Sledge Hockey, Red Geddes said:
“This was our final competitive game before we fly out to the world championships and was clearly an important opportunity to fine tune aspects of our game. Whilst results are important our focus has to be on using every opportunity to ensure we achieve our goal of a top three finish in Japan”.
GB netminder, Steve Midghall said:
“We’ve played 3 games in less than 48 hours and in every game we have given our all. We have proudly represented Great Britain and in this mornings game we have yet again given everything we have to give”.
Paralympian Steve Thomas, said:
“It is never good to lose but today gave us a great opportunity to show we could deal with unexpected situations and that will give us confidence going into the world championships. As a team we have made huge progress over the past two years and we will carry momentum into the World Championships”.
Both Great Britain and Estonia will compete again at the IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships in Nagano, Japan from the 9th to the 16th March 2013, with both teams aiming for a top three finish which will enable them to enter the final qualification tournament for the 2014 Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi, Russia in March 2014.
