Countdown to 2014 League Season

Phantoms - Championship TeamWith less than a week to go for the first game on May the 10th in the 2014 Planet Ice Sledge Hockey league, excitement is high with the players from Kingston Kestrels and Manchester Phoenix. Both teams are making their final adjustments to their equipment. Kestrels seem especially hungry this year in their attempt to win back the League trophy which was taken from them last year by the Peterborough Phantoms.

Phoenix have added to their rosters and have 4 players making their debut. Whilst Kingston haven’t expanded their roster, they are still a force to be reckoned with, as they consist almost entirely of current and ex Great Britain players.

Thanks to Planet Ice, the league format has increased this year so that each team has 3 home games and 3 away games. There are also now 4 teams in the top league, with Cardiff devils making their debut. The team has been working hard during the off season, coached by Suzi Grieve, under the stewardship of retired GB international, Russ Willey. It will be a challenging season for them, as most of their players are new to the sport.

So if you haven’t already seen this sport in person now is the ideal time to come along and see the 4 teams take to the ice and battle for the title. All games are free entry and Cardiff, Manchester, and Phantoms all face off at 4:15pm, whilst Kingston games face off at 12:30pm.
