| Eligibility |
- Players are eligible for consideration provided they are:
- a British Citizen holding a British passport
- are registered with the British Sledge Hockey Association
- Hold a classification or are able to obtain classification prior to competition
- Minimum 16 years old in the year of competition
- All eligibility is subject to the rules of IPC and BSHA rules and any changes these bodies may introduce subsequent to the publication of this policy

| The ‘Team’ |
The ‘Team’ means the team which is selected by British Sledge Hockey Association and includes players, coaches, nominated reserves, medical support personnel and any associated members of the BHS staff. |
| Nomination Panel |
- Following the completion of the designated selection events listed in this Policy, the Sledge Hockey GB Head Coach may consult with amongst others assistant coaches and the GB Team Manager and take into account any relevant input deemed necessary from supporting staff (e.g. video analyst, physiotherapist, S&C coach) to discuss the nomination of the players and coaches.
- The nominated players and coaches will be those most able to achieve the targets listed in the section ‘Performance Targets’.
- Following this consultation, the GB Head Coach will forward a list of nominated players to the Approval Panel for their scrutiny.

| Approval Panel |
- A British Sledge Hockey Association Approval Panel, comprising the Elite Lead and members of the BSHA Sub Committee (BSC) will consider the nominations for players and coaches received from the Nomination Panel and ratify if appropriate.
- The Approval Panel will confirm the selection of the Team on or before Friday 1st March 2013. An email will be circulated by the GB Team Manager.

| Appeals |
- Appeals can only be submitted for a non-selected player on the grounds that the process outlined within this Selection Policy has not been adhered to.
- Appeals should be made within three days of the announcement following BSHA Appeals Process (details can be found on the BSHA website www.sledgehockey.co.uk)

| Designated Selection Event(s) |
- Player selections will be considered based on performances at the following selection events:
a) Basingstoke 2012 League Game
b) Hull 2012 League Game
c) Peterborough 2012 League Game
d) Any international competition, at club or GB level, featuring at least one other team in the period 1st January 2012 to 28th February 2013
e) In order to be considered for selection, a player who is ill or injured prior to or during one of the Designated Selection events must provide written authentication of the injury or illness by medical personnel to the GB Team Manager |
| Nomination Process |
By entering the selection process, players and coaches agree to be bound by the provisions of this policy.
- Declaration:
Any player wishing to be considered for selection must declare in writing to the Elite Lead their intention to participate in the selection process prior to 28th February 2013.
- Selection
Players will be selected based on observation and feedback including performance statistics. Potential players will be provided with a copy of templates used to provide information to the selection panel.
- Allocated Places
Five places may be reserved for players showing ability to deliver against the performance targets outlined in the policy and whose inclusion reflects the long-term direction and aims of the WC Sledge Hockey Programme.
- Non Travelling Reserves:
Will be selected from those players not selected but who meet the selection criteria by the selection panel

| Injury & Replacement |
- Once Team selections have been confirmed by the Approval Panel, all selected players (including the reserve(s)) must agree not to withhold any information on training fitness, injury status or illness that could affect training or competition at any time until the point of the Championships.
- All selected players must agree to abide by the IPC Anti-doping code, declare any medications they are taking, in particular the use of any restricted medications, and submit these to the GB Team Manager at British Sledge Hockey Association for medical approval.
- A player or coach may be removed from the Team in the event of a non-compliance in training, a breach of responsibility to the Team or a violation of the Codes of Behaviour adopted by the Team. Prior to removal the player or coach must be presented with the opportunity to attend a removal interview with the Elite Lead (or their appointed representative) and where possible one other independent person. Written justification must be provided for all removals by the Elite Lead. Decisions on these matters are not open to appeal.
- At any stage following the selection announcement and prior to departure to the competition, should any player fail to reach performance expectations in training or competition, the GB Head Coach may recommend de-selection to the Approval Panel. Prior to removal the player or staff member must be presented with the opportunity to attend a removal interview with the Elite Lead or their appointed representative and where possible one other independent person. Written justification must be provided for all removals. Decisions on these matters are not open to appeal.
- At any stage following the selection announcement, should there be a doubt over the ability of a Player to compete to the best of his ability due to an injury or illness, the following procedure will be adhered to:
a) The player will be referred to BSH’s designated Medical Officer or a nominated qualified medical practitioner to undergo a medical examination to determine his fitness to participate, which at this stage will be determined based on an assessment of whether or not the injury and/or illness is such that the player is physically unable to compete or is at risk of causing medical harm to himself, or endangering other competitors, officials or spectators.
b) If the player passes the medical examination carried out but the Medical Officer and/or BSH have concerns over whether or not the Player is able to compete to the best of his ability due to the underlying injury or illness, the player will be required to undertake a “Fitness Test” (performance standards to be agreed with the GB Head Coach).
c) In the event that a player fails to complete the Fitness Test to the required standard, the GB Head Coach may recommend to the Approvals Panel that the selected player be deselected and replaced with the reserve. A decision, which is not open to appeal. |
| Team Organisation |
- The Team will attend a Pre-World Championships Preparation Camp at Tedworth House, 8th – 10th February 2013. This is a condition of selection (unless exemption agreed by prior arrangement with the GB Head Coach)
- The Team will convene on 8th March 2013 to travel to the World Championships.
- In the event that they haven’t already done so, all players of the delegation will be required to sign and comply with BSHA Code of Conduct.

| Announcement |
- Selected Team Members agree not to make any announcement to the media or public in any form (including on any personal websites) regarding their selection until after British Sledge Hockey Association have announced the selection on the British Sledge Hockey Association web site (www.sledgehockey.co.uk)

| Any additional matters not covered by this Policy |
- Any matters arising from the selection processes, which are not covered within this policy, shall be determined by the GB Elite Sub Group acting at their sole discretion.
